Drake House Museum: Are you a member?

One of the jewels of the city is, with no doubt, the Drake House Museum.  If you have yet to visit this house-converted-museum then, in my opinion, you have yet to understand what makes Plainfield unique (in case you do not already know it, Plainfield has an unique place in American history -from the first settlers to the American Revolution to the 60's Riots to now a diverse city where first generation immigrants feel almost as safe as in their native lands).  How much more can one ask of the place one calls home?

But visiting this Plainfield jewel, the Drake House Museum, is not enough.  We Plainfielders need to help support it and that comes with your annual membership:

$25 will buy you an "Individual Membership"
$35 a "Family" one.
Seniors get a senior discount at $15.

Your membership does go a long way.  Not to mention that it shows your "Plainfield Pride".

While I do not go and visit the museum every year there has always been something new to look at the times we have been there and in the years that we have been here, almost 8, we have seen major improvements to the Museum.

One additional benefit of becoming a member?  You get "The Communique" which is the Historical Society of Plainfield's newsletter (did you know that the HSP was started by the West End Civic Association?).  I have taken the liberty of scanning the newsletter (sorry, link doesn't work, newsletter is embedded below) for those who have yet to learn what the Museum does for Plainfield and its residents.

You can check yourself the Drake House Museum's website at:  http://drakehouseplainfieldnj.org/

My check for them is in the mail, will you be sending your support too?  Show your "Plainfield Pride" by supporting our local organizations.  Because our local organizations are the only thing that will stand the test of time over and over again.

Thank you Maria for spreading the word about The Drake House Museum, it is a wonderful place to learn about the rich history that is Plainfield. Many exciting exhibits are coming in the next few months. I joined the Board in June and I've loved every minute of it! Hope to see you there soon, Jo-Ann Bandomer

I served on the board of the Drake House for several years as treasurer. It is a real city treasure and a wonderful group of people.
