Plainfield School District Budget for 2012-13: $173,433,100.00

I am still scratching my head when it comes to the Plainfield school district budget for next year as figures presented at last week's school board meeting revealed that the district is proposing for the 2012-13 school year a budget of $173,433,100.00.  Last year's budget, the one that was proposed, was around $150 million. The district later received additional funding from the state due to an adjustement on funding for Abbott school districts.

The state released its aid to school districts this past Thursday and Plainfield is said to be scheduled to receive from the state a total of $118,407,526.00.  This is $772,446 more than last year, or if you want to go technical, the amount represents a 0.7% increment from last year's aid.

Plainfield property homeowners contributed last year, according to city audits, a bit more than $23 millions.

Federal state monetary contribution is minimum and usually a lot less than state and local aid.

So, my made in china tiny solar calculator is telling me that we are looking at around $20-25 million dollars that we do not know where they are coming from (I am adding state and local aid which leaves me with the $20-25 million gap).

Thanks to technology I have sent a short e-mail to the district with the hopes to learn, now that we know what the state's contribution is, where the difference is coming from.

If you would like to see the Plainfield's budget presentation that was made this past week click HERE.  Much thanks to interim superintendent, Ms. Belin-Pyles, who provided me with this copy that I can now present to you.

More on the budget later this weekend or early next week.

Thanks always for the information Maria as new resident to Plainfield the past six months you have been most informative. My question would be with the possible budget
shortfall will staff or services possibly be cut? Also I saw in the Courier News today something about Energy Education and local district saving money has the school board move forward on this? I remember this was past post on your blog and just was wondering had not heard anything about this.

8:52,

Welcome to Plainfield! I am glad you feel the blog is informative. Regarding the difference between what the district has proposed and what the state aid is, I am still waiting for clarification from the district, this can take a while. As for staff cuts, the district is actually proposing to increase payroll by 31 additional positions. Last, nothing much has been said about energy education, I'll see if I can get an update on this one. Hope this helps to answer your questions. Thanks and welcome to Plainfield again!
