The NCLB Waiver and Plainfield Schools

Plainfield school district has six (6) schools embedded into the state's application for the No Child Left Behind Waiver.  Yesterday it was announced that NJ got the waiver and no longer, for the next few years at least, has to strictly follow federal regulations imposed by No Child Left Behind.

The application for the waiver is 392 pages.  A lot shorter than War and Peace. :-)

At the end of the application, which I have not read on its entirety, has the list and the categories of those schools that were selected and classified onto 3 groups:  Priority, Focus and Rewards schools.

Plainfield public schools district has 6 of our 15 schools listed on two groups: Priority and Focus.

As Priority Schools you will find:  Hubbard and Stillman.

Focus Schools are:  Jefferson, Washington, Maxson and the High School.

This is what the application says on Priority and Focus Schools (page 339):
The Department will create customized interventions to turnaround Priority and Focus Schools, based on their individual needs. Among others, these interventions include a focus on improving instruction, using data to drive decision making, and expanding learning time.

The NJ Application, all of it, can be found HERE.
