VI. REMARKS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dr. Gallon shared new district grade configurations planned for
FY’10."
What were those plans back then for 2010? Does anyone remember? Were those the plans that translated into all elementary schools housing 6th graders? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

I am glad you brought this up because again the BOE is changing the plan and forcing our children to have to exprience another change with no serious planning again.
It has only be 2+ years since this current change went into affect claiming that this would be better for the students because they would spend more time in the same place. Now that everyone has gotten use the plan they want to go back the old format. However, this new plan would included taken away Hubbard and increasing the size of PAAS.
I never believed in this plan because we were not trained nor prepared to accommodate a larger student body of K-8 for some schools but regardless of the parents rejection the plan went forward.
Now all the schools are full not only because of students moving up another grade but the constant acceptance of students outside of their zone. If they were to put the children back in the school they were zoned for the over crowding was be low. Also the reason for middle school was to avoid the overcrowding of older children still with the younger children.
If there needs to be a cut-off and it should be K-6; then parents could be a choice regarding the three schools which would be available: Maxson, Hubbard and PAAS. By reversing them back to K-5 all the 6th graders wanting to go to PAAS would have to spend a year in another school because they could transfer which make no sense. The child would have to make two transfers instead of one.
The BOE is again using our children as science projects and not taking into account the damage of moving them around unnecessarily. They have already had to deal with new Principals now some will be force to leave their schools for a year before they can transfer.
This reconstruction is only being discussed more because word of mouth is spreading but if this was the original plan with would have been discussed in September when they had the student body counts and saw the dramatic increases in the student body.
