Plainfield was one of the first cities in the country to have mandated busing. This was the first impetuous that drove the affluent white population to the hills, a movement that was accelerated by the later riots.
Unfortunately, one form of racial bigotry has been replaced by another. The problem of ethnic and religious harmony was not solved by that move which began the distruction of a top rated school system.
