What is one to think when one searches information at the Plainfield public schools own website (at the search box) and one of the searched files comes back with a headline that says "Are you Surprised?"
I had tried different search topics now for several weeks and there seems to be certain files that come back with the "Are You Surprised" headline. Why? Is this some kind of code among school employees?
Anyway. My search of today was for Mr. Sean Sutton as you can see in the picture above. Mr. Sean Sutton, is the employee from Buildings and Grounds that was appointed for the Energy Specialist position which was recently approved by the school board. At the last Business Meeting, October 18, 2011 (p.5), Mr. Sutton was recommended by the superintendent to the Energy Specialist position. The appointment was approved by a majority school board, then, in a surprise move, his appointment got pulled out after the public meeting was over because apparently one of the school board members, Mr. Edache, didn't understand what he was voting on. I was told a discussion on this matter, and a new vote, would take place again at the next school board meeting and that "next meetings" would had been the one of last week. Was Mr. Sutton's appointment discussed, and voted on, behind closed doors at last week's meeting? This I do not know. Perhaps discussion and action meant at the "next school business meeting" where the agenda for personnel matters usually is?
I am not sure about the proper procedure to repeal a vote once an item gets adopted by a majority vote, public discussion ends, and then 5 minutes later the session gets called back to order just to pull back the already voted on item. So, yes, I have questions on the propriety of this particular action. Maybe a letter asking for clarification is needed?
But going back to Mr. Sutton, today looking for him and his whereabouts at the district's website the "Contact Us" list revealed that his name is no longer listed as the Assistant Coordinator for Buildings and Grounds, this is the position I knew Mr. Sutton held last year. What is more, the June 21, 2011 (p.14) agenda places him as "General Maintenance, Facilities and Grounds" at a much lower pay scale than the year before. So, where is Mr. Sean Sutton as of today? Will there be resolution on his employment for one decision or another?
Why is this important? Not knowing who Mr. Sutton is I had to ask myself why was his situation interesting to me. Having followed the district for quite some years it seems to me that movement of personnel is one of the reasons the district incurs into so much legal trouble. Mr. Sutton's case is just one example of how casual personnel movements within the district are handled, hopefully this case won't become one more legal docket to follow in the future. Hopefully.
